So, there was this time I was in a bad place; my emotions were everywhere, so I decided to take a walk.

On getting back home, I noticed a hired laborer cutting the grass across the street. I walked to him and asked if he'd like a bottle of water, he answered in the affirmative, so I rushed in, got a big bottle and filled it with cold water.

A minute later, I walked back to him, and excitedly, he collected it and thanked me. I was moved by his gratitude, and had no money to give, so I asked him if he'd like some food; again he answered in the affirmative, β€œyes, Oga, I go like am”.

I went in for the second time, and in 30 minutes, my signature jollof spaghetti was ready. I packed some of it in a disposable plate, then in a leather bag, and gave it to him. He was so excited and spared no words in thanking me, β€œAh, thank you Oga, thank you, you do well Oga” he said.

Happiness graced his face like a kid on Christmas morning. And as I turned to leave with gladness in my heart, he mumbled some Hausa words which I didn't understand, but I'm sure it was in appreciation.

This, I assure you, made my day.

There is this feeling of fulfillment and true happiness when you do something for someone who can't pay you back, especially a stranger, it heals you in ways even you do not understand.

Are you having a bad day? Do something kind for someone else, you'd feel happier when you see them smile.

I am Kovu.
