Who is really mad ?
Who is really mad ?
So I saw a mentally disabled man (Madman) today picking dirts off the road and putting them into a big sac , he was looking very dirty with his rough hair and torn clothes which covered almost no part of his body but he was ridding the streets of nylons , plastic bags and what have you , dropped by supposed normal people .
This reminded me of some two months ago when I was in Asaba , I had stopped by this POS store to run a quick transaction and buy a recharge card , I was done and needed to dispose of the receipt so I asked this gentle looking man where his trash can was so I do justice to the trash , "throw am there" he said to me , pointing into a gutter just by the main road , as I looked into the gutter I could see all manner of dirts in there , infact the two little pieces of paper in my hand wouldn't have made any difference but no , I smiled as I tucked the papers into my bag , he looked to me and said "Bros , I understand wetin you dey do but we never reach there for this country" , if you know me you would know I like to start discussions of this sort , "reach where" I questioned , he then went on about how Nigeria wasn't ripe for such manners and how he would continue to litter the society until he gets what he wants "when we get wetin we dey find things go change" he said , I questioned further " wetin we dey find my brother" at this point I had dropped my bag and was ready for a serious talk , he then said to me "you no be Igbo man ? , When biafra come things go change , we go stop to dey dirty our streets , even if I no see am , my pikin must see am" with a smile on my face I queried if he had a child , of course he did , he had a 6 year old girl , I then asked him what would change when biafra comes ? How he would suddenly unteach his 6 year old to stop littering the society , I asked how he would automatically quit the dirty and uncitizen habit of littering the society , I asked him if he knew how endemic such habits are , I made him understand that man is a product of his society , you can not litter your surroundings and complain of sicknesses and diseases then cry foul to the government , after a short while , he agreed with me that "the change starts with you" and that we have to work collectively , the leaders and the led relatively to get to the promise Land .
PS: I am not writing this because of biafra , I am writing this to make us understand that we have a role to play in making a better nation and our tomorrow is an offspring of our today , you can not plant onion and harvest yam .
